ARLINGTON, VA – The Century Council, a national not-for-profit funded by distillers and dedicated to eliminating drunk driving and underage drinking, has announced that former Attorney General Thurbert Baker of Georgia, will be the newest member of its National Advisory Board. The National Advisory Board plays a vital role in assisting in the development and execution of The Century Council’s mission by providing critical insights and valuable expertise to the Chairman, Susan Molinari, and the staff and member companies.
During his 13 years as the state’s top law enforcement official, General Baker served Georgia over the span of three governors. Throughout his tenure, General Baker was consistently picked as one of Georgia Trend magazine’s “100 Most Influential Georgians.” Attorney General Baker served as the president of the National Association of Attorneys General (NAAG) from 2006-2007, where he gained the respect of business and legal leaders around the country for his leadership and expertise. General Baker is now a Partner, with the international law firm of McKenna, Long & Aldridge in Atlanta, GA.
While serving as the Attorney General of Georgia, Baker hosted many of The Century Council’s programs in an effort to fight drunk driving and underage drinking; his efforts included hosting a Brandon Tells His Story program for high school students, many Ask, Listen, Learn: Kids and Alcohol Don’t Mix middle school initiatives, and supporting a Girl Talk chapter for teen girls.
“These issues have always been very important to me and I look forward to working with The Century Council in this new capacity to reduce underage drinking and drunk driving,” said Baker.
“Attorney General Baker worked tirelessly during his time as Attorney General to fight drunk driving and underage drinking and he has been a key partner in The Century Council’s efforts to do the same,” said Ralph Blackman, President and CEO of The Century Council. “Attorney General Baker has raised public awareness by taping public service announcements to spread the message about the need to talk to our youth about the dangers of underage drinking and brought many of The Century Council’s programs to students across Georgia. We look forward to his service on the National Advisory Board and the wealth of knowledge and expertise he will bring to the table,” said Blackman.
