Today, the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) released the 2013 Most Wanted List. Made up of 10 overarching transportation safety issues, NTSB aims to use the list as an advocacy and education tool to encourage regulatory agencies, legislatures, and the public and private sector to act on recommendations based on pertinent accident investigations within those issue areas.
In May 2012, The Century Council was pleased to participate in a forum on substance impaired driving at NTSB that presented a renewed focus on the deadly problem of impaired driving. As a result, we are pleased to support the addition of substance impaired driving to NTSB’s 2013 Most Wanted List.
In the 24 years since NTSB investigated the nation’s deadliest impaired driving crash, there have been 300,000 deaths as a result of impaired driving. At the Forum, The Century Council presented a five-pronged approach to eliminating impaired driving among hardcore offenders. As NTSB lays out their specific recommendations for eliminating substance impaired driving as a result of their 2013 Most Wanted List, The Century Council is eager to work with this important Hardcore Drunk Driving Coalition partner to develop solutions.
